Ferrari 312B F1-1970 0.87

By: Alain Lefebvre

download version 0.87 beta http://www.mediafire.com/?im5lx2b22nj

This is about the Ferrari 312B from the 1970' F1 season... The very first "boxer".

This mod will be limited to this car only. If successfull, we may extend to the others cars of the 1970's season such as BRM, Matra, March, Mac Laren, Brabham and Lotus... But it will be a huge work!

Short history

The Ferrari 312B F1 for the 1970' season was the very first F1 from the "scuderia" with the "boxer" engine (flat 12 cylinders).

After a slow start, the 312B ended the season with a storm of victories: 4 GPs win in 1970!

All thought, it was not enought for Jacky Ickx to win the title wich goes for Jochen Rindt (the one and only to be post mortem world champion).

The 70' season was the first of a prestigious decade who saw the fight between the Ferrari and the Cosworth' based english teams. On these days, the tires are yet wide and the wings everywhere but the cars remains basic and the speed has not reach the peak of the wing-car aera.

The concept behind this mod

Our goal was to realize a realist mod of this wonderfull car but, also, to get a pleasant behavior on the track and not difficult to drive.

So, it's mainly a compromise between realism and fun to drive. The realism is important but it's not a dogma for us. If we have to choose between sticking with reality of the car and a good behavior or look, we will not choose realism...

For example: the dashboard of this version is ugly!

But this dashboard looks like the real one because the real dashboard was really ugly (unfinished to say the last). In the next versions, we will put another "nicer" dashboard (but it will no longer stick with the real look...).

Beta version

Keep this in mind: it's only a BETA version, so it's unfinished!

This version 0.85 is full of bugs (some are obvious like no mirror) so don't be surprised if it not match of the others mods you already used in online races.

Why releasing this mod in beta?

This a call for help!

Something in this mod is wrong and you think you can do better?

No problem, your contribution will be welcome!

We are short of skill on Rfactor this is why we need to enlarge the team in order to finish this project

Come vi sembra sta macchina? L'ho provata su vari tracciati e devo dire che l'ho trovata alquanto nervosetta... :glare:

Ferrari 312B F1-1970 0.89

This a call for help!

No problem, your contribution will be welcome!

What's new in this 0.89?

- the final cockpit is finished

- the physics are revised (by Niels)

What's left in the to-do-list?

- the soundpack is far from finished!

- the tyres are a little bit too wide

- this mod is too FPS hungry... it's need to "deflate" on this side...

- and many more we still have to discover!

Qualche dettaglio tecnico su come sta venendo realizzata la fisica del mod:

Here is some info regarding the physics in this version, created with my tool 'TREX'. Hopefully with a few revisions lots of you can enjoy the car and drive it with some confidence!

Data found:

This site has info that is hopefully not wrong: http://www.f1technical.net/f1db/cars/256

Main car bits:

The fuel tank has a huge capacity and it might last you some ~17 laps at the Nurburgring. The centre of gravity of the fuel tank is a little in front of the centre of gravity of the 'empty' car, so the balance will change as it empties. You'll be adding nearly 200kg of fuel to a car that weighs 620kg with 'you' in it, fuel load has a huge effect on handling and car setup.

The weight distribution is guessed at 39% front and 61% rear, based on GPL figures. It might be a bit more rearward as the radiators seem to be somewhere up / behind the rear axle. Real data is welcome here!

The height of the centre of gravity is guessed at 0.34 meters above the ground (0.5 is road car like, 0.28 is modern single seater like).

Tyres:

I do some simple calculations based on the real tyre size which decides on the peak slipangle:

Front peaks laterally: 8.8 .. 10.6 degrees depending on load

Rear peaks laterally: 7.8 .. 9.4 degrees depending on load

Longitudinal peaks between 11 and 13% slip

Suspension:

Front static roll centre height = 0.055 meters of the ground

Rear static roll centre height = 0.135 meters of the ground.

I have no clue what the real suspension would be like. The rear roll centre

means you can run it without a rear rollbar quite easily. I might lower rollcentres a little, especially the rear one.

Springs are tuned so the default setup has 2.2hz front frequency and 2.35hz at the back; though fuel load will affect this considerably. Damping is chosen according to a PDF about the subject;

Fast bump: 33% of critical damping

Slow bump: 66% of critical damping

Fast rebound: 66% of critical damping

Slow rebound: 133% of critical damping

Adjustable of course, these are the default parameters.

There is 8cm of bump travel at the front and 9 at the back before you hit the bumpstops; and assuming default ride heights. Rebound travel is 1cm more than bump travel. Ride heights shouldn't be taken too literaly.

Aero:

It has wings! Based on a top view of the rFactor model, the total wing surface area is about 0.6 square meters, of which some 0.19m^2 sits at the front and 0.41m^2 at the back. Thanks to Gregor Veble for giving a hand in some simple aerodynamics calculations resulting in what should be a reasonable amount of downforce at the following wing settings (f/r)

1/1 wings, front downforce 31.5%, total downforce at 250km/h = 135 kg

4/4 wings, front downforce 32.5%, total downforce at 250km/h = 248 kg

7/7 wings, front downforce 32.8%, total downforce at 250km/h = 360 kg

As you can see the aero balance, as long as you keep front/rear wings the same value, is some 32% front biased. The lift/drag ratio of the wings is 4:1, though wings are only a part of the drag; the main car body has a fair amount of it too.

Engine / driveline:

Real data for what its worth is used: 460hp at 12000rpm, but peak torque is guessed at 310Nm at 9400rpm! Real data is welcome here, this is just educated guessing, making a nice not too flat torque curve.. There are 12% drivetrain losses (torque curve multiplier of 88% used). The limited slip diff is adjustable, as is the preload. Gear ratios are tall ish, but guessed and quite adjustable.

Brakes:

Heat and wear isn't really an aspect in this version.

Realfeel settings:

[F312B]

MaxForceAtSteeringRack=1500.000000

SteeringDamper=11500.000000

FFBMixerRealFeelPercent=100.000000

SmoothingLevel=0

Perhaps set smoothing to 1 or 2 if you don't own a G25. I use 600 degrees in the logitech software, with 25 in the car setup screen.

Driving aids..:

For now there is no auto blip and gear timing is for H shifters. A future version will likely introduce a few upgrades in this area. For now, blip on the downshifts, or shift down very late!

La versione attuale tuttavia ha alcuni file errati, che dovrebbero essere corretti con una patch a breve. E' stato aggiunto l'autoblip da parte dell'autore, anche se Niels avrebbe preferito non metterlo, tra le altre cose.

Seems 0.89 comes with the old engine.ini file. I'm moving house tomorrow so it may be a few days, but I hope to release an improved version with all the physics files in place, and with ''realistic'' no blip / no delay and a '' game'' upgrade whcih auto blips and has some shift delays.

Until then, you can't fully judge the car with the wrong engine so please don't be too harsh until we fully fix it! :)
