Markus72
In the italian netkar official forum, Stefano "Kunos" Casillo, author of netKar, wrote a post (that you can find HERE) in which he explains his decision to take a brake, or to slacken, the development of his freeware sim. Since when he came to Japan to live and work there, last summer, a lot of things are changed: he works hard all the day, and he's too busy and a little tired to continue the development using all his free time. So, since now, probably he will continue to develop the software when and how he feels, so there are no more release date, or assured projects, around netKar. Maybe he will continue to develop it, maybe not. In the past 2 years we
Guest fiambre
thanks for the translation but if kunos dont work on the game, someone has to continue with the work. we will not leave dies this "work of art"
Markus72
you can't operate inside the code. netKar isn't an open source project, so you can change textures of cars and tracks, engine and fx sounds, make utilities, you can't improve the code, the phisics, without the direct support of the netKar author. Markus72
I think that it will come, but I can't reckon on it for sure.
Guest wilho
This is truely sad news. If Kunos is ready to give up, I hope he's ready to do it right and let it go, by GPL'ing his project.
Guest cavallino
Guys cool down. Things are not THAT bad. I believe that Kunos did the right thing, primarily for himself and then for netKar and the rest of us. netKar has grown to be one of the best sims out there and this eventually becomes a real burden to support on a regular basis. The fan base has grown beyond expectation and that adds a lot of pressure on Kunos who also has a very demanding and tiring job. I asked him once how he can cope with all this and still have a proper life with some free time. Obviously the free time proved not to be enough and that's fully understandable by me. I fully support Kunos on his decision to take it easy from now on. Don't worry, I'm sure that he will continue to support and improve netKar in the future but he will take his time. I - for one - am not in a hurry, because I know that someone will deliver better things when he's not in a rush.
Guest GB-Rebel
thanks for the translation but if kunos dont work on the game, someone has to continue with the work. we will not leave dies this "work of art" I agree... Stephano has created quite a nice little sim here. Others, are devoting time to creating new tracks, skins, and what not. I saw 5 new (and nice looking BTW) track candidates on an obscure website.... (trust me, you'll like them if they are ever released for multi-play =). Anyway, the point is this sim has attracted a pool of like minded, and talented, people who enthusiastically, and selflessly, work on different aspects of the sim. It also has attracted people who instinctively know something good when they see it, and like me.... they subscribed to it... (no regrets there... =) I can understand his situation to some degree, I mean... if I were him I'd rather use my spare time to explore my strange new surroundings. He probably won't get a second chance to explore if he doesn't do it now while he has the chance to. But... Due to the fact that I've become hopelessly addicted to this sim, and the fact that not just a few folks still can't get online, I humbly ask of Stephano that he allow a trusted person to act on his behalf to correct the network code, or minor flaws, until such time as he returns to his project. Let someone tweak that network code.... I beg of you.... Rebz......
Guest Aristotelis
No need to panic, Markus was very kind to do a translation of kunos's post but it might got a bit far emotionaly. In his originaly post, kunos says NOTHING about aborting nK. Personaly I can assure you that work WILL go on, only in a bit slower rithms and certainly without any public announcements anymore. Mod teams will get support in the future, multi will get better, new versions will get out... but we can't tell you when and how in order to keep pressure low and keep netKar what was at the beggining, a passion, a free time project, a dream... that's all So no need to feel sad, chill up and keep supporting nK. This is the best way to help kunos and the nkcrew team to keep working on netKar cheers!
